Line Drawing Silhouette fuso

Imperial Japanese Navy ship Yamashiro was the second fuso class battleship, and was commissioned on March 31, 1917. She was the first Japanese warship equipped with aircraft catapults.
The Yamashiro was reconstructed from December 1930 to March 1935.Elevation of the main armament was increased from 30 degrees to 43 degrees. The forefunnel was removed, but converted later, the Yamashiro differed slightly from its sister ship Fusō in the arrangement of gun turrets; by altering the "dead angle" of "C" turret from forward training to aft, deck space was left for a larger superstructure.Eight 5inch 127mm heavy anti-aircraft guns were fitted, one twin mount on each side of the bridge forward, and the other pair of twin mounts high up on the tower structure aft

battleship ijn Mikasa

ship model photos

ijn Mikasa is a Imperial Japanese Navy pre-Dreadnought battleship, made in Britain in 1900. Mikasa, was ordered from the Vickers shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom at the end of 1898, for delivery to Japan in 1902. She took three years to complete, at the great cost of £880,000 (8.8 million yen).
She served as the flagship of Admiral Tōgō Heihachirō during the Battle of Tsushima in 1905, as well as several other engagements during the Russo-Japanese War.
At the time of her delivery, Mikasa was a state-of-the-art pre-dreadnought battleship, achieving an unprecedented combination of firepower and protection.adapted from british latest Majestic class design, with increased displacement (15,140 tonnes against 14,900), improved speed (18 knots against 17), slightly stronger armament (two more 6 inch guns), and much stronger armour: she kept the same armour thicknesses but used high performance Krupp armour, around 50% stronger compared to the Harvey armour used by the Majestic class.

At Tsushima, Mikasa led the combined Japanese fleet into one of the most decisive naval battles in history. The Russian fleet was almost completely annihilated:she received around 20 hits during the battle of the Yellow Sea on 10 August 1904, and around 30 hits during the battle of Tsushima, with only limited damage. The firepower and the longer range of the guns of Mikasa were also fully exploited by highly trained and effective Japanese gunners.

The USS NEW JERSEY (BB-62) fire a six gun salvo of 16 inch shell into enemy troop concentration near Kaesong, Korea.

President Ronald Reagan's "600-ship Navy" plan called for the reactivation, modernization, and recommissioning of all four Iowa class battleships. Here, Reagan (below the "New Jersey" sign, to the extreme right) speaks at New Jersey's recommissioning ceremony.

The New Jersey (BB-62) fires broadside during bombardment operations against enemy targets in Korea, adjacent to the 38th parallel. Photo is dated 10 November 1951. Smoke from shell explosions is visible ashore, in the upper left.
