italian navy RM Roma was an Italian Vittorio Veneto class battleship during ww2. She was built in 1940 and entered in service in late 1942

The Roma have 35000 tons displacement was powered by oil-fired high pressure water-tube boilers providing a top speed of 30 knots and carried a complement of 1600. weapons consisted of nine 15-inch Vickers guns (official designation 381/40); twelve 6-inch guns; twelve 3.5-inch anti-aircraft guns; forty anti-aircraft machine-guns and three aircraft also carried
The battle ship Roma was sunk by German FX 1400 (Fritz-X) air-launched anti-ship missiles after while sailing into Allied internment on 9 September 1943, becoming the first major warship to be sunk by guided missiles. One Fritz-X hit amidship and exploded under the bottom, the other hit abreast the bridge, penetrated the forward magazine and exploded.
