Australian Navy current submarines









The Collins class conventional submarines are the current submarines serving in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Entering service from 1996, The Collins Class submarines are a key element of Australia's Defence Force, The submarines have a diameter of approximately 8 metres with a displacement of 3,000 tonnes.and can travel at speeds greater than 20 knots (submerged) and 10 knots (surfaced).
The class is made up of six vessels: Collins, Farncomb, Waller, Dechaineux, Sheean, and Rankin; all six are based at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia. They were built by the Australian Submarine Corporation at Osborne, South Australia.the submarines' total cost was put at more than AU$6 billion as of 2000
The submarines have six forward torpedo tubes and are able to carry up 22 torpedoes or anti-ship missiles, or up to 44 mines in place of torpedoes.
